In the age of the Anthropocene, coral reefs are suffering unprecedented mass bleaching-extinction events around the globe. This exhibition embraces the utopian concept of ‘Geotherapy’: which both acknowledges humanity’s role in the destruction of our shared biosphere and offers nature-based often indigenous sustainable solutions to heal it.
In this body of work, Artist and Explorer Mara G. Haseltine, who collaborates with marine biologists and field scientists, combines existing innovative sustainable reef restoration methods, technologies, materials alongside some she wishes to invent…

Haseltine infuses her functional reef designs – often based on microscopic oceanic life forms with poetry, whimsy, and local folklore gleaned through her travels.
Ultimately, Haseltine sees this body of work as a grand gesture and hopes these intricate underwater sculptural structures will reabsorb into their environments, thus becoming healthy, biodiverse reefs that help protect and soften shorelines against storm surges and rising sea levels.
